BIODIESEL
Biodiesel (mono alkyl ester) is a cleaner-burning diesel fuel made from natural, renewable sources such as vegetable oils, to meet ASTMD 6751 specifications. Because it is renewable and domestically produced, biodiesel fits well under the Energy Policy Act of 1992, which is in place to help ensure national energy security through replacing imported petroleum products with domestic alternative fuels.
Diesel engines burning standard petroleum fuels produce carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, and other toxic emissions dangerous to human health, and the environment. (see article on children and school bus emissions.)
Biodiesel is a fully compatible liquid fuel and can be used in all diesel engines without any modifications. Whether used as a replacement fuel, a blending component, or an additive, biodiesel significantly reduces harmful emissions without reducing engine performance or efficiency.
